Getting our own Gaia range of coffee together would not be complete without a South American speciality coffee. We took great pleasure in tasting this blend with beans from the Mayan areas of the contentment. Hence our name, Mayan Mistura.
We love the smooth, chocolatey taste that comes from these beans but with a sweetness that stops the flavour becoming on the bitter side.
This is roasted slightly darker than our original blend, but still in the medium roast area.
Mayan Mistura, South American Speciality Coffee Flavour
South American coffee blends are known for being on the Chocolatey side, our Mayan Mistura delivers that on the side of being sweet rather than bitter. Some hints of apple also make their way into this mix with a really smooth flavour.
This chocolatey, smooth coffee works beautifully as both espresso and taller drinks like latte’s and cappuccinos and tastes really smooth and rich as a filter coffee through a machine or using a french press.
This coffee is roasted at Bewley’s roastery in Huddersfield and uses ethically sourced beans.
Everything is roasted in small batches and to the freshest, we can get it for you, with us making regular orders for this to arrive in store at it’s best.
This coffee is roasted medium and retains some acidity once roasted, it is not best to be consumed within 5 days of roasting.
We grind this speciality coffee in store at Just Gaia, Halifax or provide this as beans to grind yourself at home.
As you likely know already, we are a plastic free shop and do everything we can to be sustainable with what we do. This extends to all our speciality coffee too.
If you purchase either 75g or 125g you will get one of our kraft paper tubes with your coffee. These are 100% plastic free and good for storage at home. Once you have one they are reusable, you can feel free to buy refills from us to the same quantities and reduce packaging we are wasting every day.
Try to avoid contact with water given they are paper but, for keeping your coffee (or tea!) they are excellent.
If you purchase 200g of coffee you can do so including a clip-lock tin worth £2.95 separately. These are metallic and lock closed, perfect for keeping your coffee and other uses around the kitchen and home too.
Refills will be provided in paper bags so you can refill your containers at home, they are not intended to be used for storage.

South American coffee is always really smooth and tasty, one of my personal favourites. I wanted to add it to our range of coffee but, I also didn’t fancy a burned, bitter flavour you sometimes get.
This gives that wonderful chocolate flavour and a smooth taste, but with a hint of sweetness. Even a little apple pie like through milk. It’s gorgous and even came out the winner in our blind taste test to choose a new coffee for the Gaia range.

First, choose if you want “beans” to grind yourself at home or “ground” which is done by us in-store or at the roastery.
Then choose your weight, you can add to your basket more than once to get your ideal weight if you can’t see yours listed. For example, 250g is not listed but you could add 125g twice using the quantity button and ask in the notes as you checkout.
Please note, only certain weights work with the different packaging types.
Finally, select the container from the drop down list to choose from a “cliplock tin” which holds 200g of coffee. Or card tubes that we have in small 75g packs as trial sizes or 125g size tube as found in our subscription box.
If you can’t see an option, chances are your selection on the weight is preventing it from showing up.
